Profile
Ben Mitchell is a composer for Film & TV, a Producer and an artist in his own right. From his CanCan studio Ben has recorded over 250 singles and 18 albums over a 20 year career .
Ben has composed pieces for some of the worlds biggest brands. Current ads include the world wide campaign for Bacardi and the new Olay ad. For the 2008 European Championships he produced the theme for the Adidas Dream BIG TV ad campaign. For the 2006 World Cup he put together 2 tracks for Nikes Joga Bonito ads. Other highlights have been tracks for Bombay Sapphire Gin, Swatch, Nokia, Samsung, BMW Mini, Kozel and a track for Sony Playstation’s LittleBig Planet. Ben’s style is wide and varied. Every thing from Classical/Opera to Rhythmical soundscaping. For Nike Ben used a Brazilian percussion ensemble who made every rhythmical sound using only the human body. For Bacardi he assembled a stadium filling funk band and for Kozel a 1920s sounding big band complete with mastering the final recording onto a 78 record to get that vintage sound. Every ad is different. He assembles a bespoke team of people to serve each different criteria. Bens tracks have ben used on various TV programmes and recently in an episode of Drop Dead Diva
As a producer, Ben has worked with an array of highly credible artists including; Terry Callier, The Lo Fidelity All-Stars, Beverley Knight, Billie Godfrey and Afrobeat legend Bukky Leo (Fella Kuti Africa 70). He is the founder of Mr Hermano, releasing their second album ‘Free As The Morning Sun’ for Disorient Records and touring extensively including Glastonbury, The Big Chill and The Blue Note Tokyo. He has also recorded an album with Jazz DJ Russ Dewbury called ‘Beyond The Rains’ The Mitchell & Dewbury Band. Sao Benitez is Bens current Band. Their first album “Elemental” was released on Mr Bongo and in Japan with Columbia. The second and third albums “Danca Loca” and “Peace & Love” are released summer 2010. Tracks from the albums have been used on various TV programs and adverts including Bacardi and Adidas.
As a remixer Ben has worked with Masters at Work, Beverley Knight, Jimi Hendix, Samantha Mumba, Brenda Russel and The Sugarhill Gang . Other remixs of Bens include Seu Jorge (City Of God), Marcelo D2, Luiz Bonfa, Paula Lima, Ive Mendez and Nova Lima. Bens background in remixing is a useful tool in producing tracks for ads. Ben has access to the Mr Bongo worldwide publishing library that he reworks and remixs for various ad campaigns.
Bens DJ sets are legendary for their uplifting blend of Latin, batucadas and funky soulful vibes that reflect his own productions. He has played world wide, recent gigs include The Venice Film Festival, The MTV Awards Lisbon, Cannes Lions Awards and a gig for Bacardi in Bermuda. He has presented various radio shows including Shabuya FM, B-Live Radio, Milk Radio and Jazz FM.
